Meet Our Staff

Our new Director of Bands, Mr. Joshua Bishop, was born in New Orleans, LA and graduated High School at South Broward High school, where he learned to play Saxophone and Bassoon. After graduation, Mr. Bishop joined the United States Marine Corps and served as a Marine Musician as a Bassoonist. For 6 years, Mr. Bishop served honorably, touring the globe and playing for dignitaries in countries like Bahrain, UAE, Oman and Kuwait. He also had the opportunity to play in all the premier ensembles in the Marine Corps, due to the fact that he was labeled as the most proficient bassoonist in the Corps.

After his time in the Marine Corps, Mr. Bishop served as a Police Officer and Firefighter in Southwest Georgia, even being selected to serve with FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers to aid in the efforts to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. While serving as a Firefighter, Mr. Bishop also was a Bassoonist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra.

In 2006, Mr. Bishop was hired as Band Director with South Sumter High School in Bushnell, FL, taking a broken program and receiving Superior ratings in all areas for 2 years. In 2008, Mr. Bishop moved back home to South Florida and took over as the Director of Bands at Nova High School. During his time there, Nova went from getting subpar ratings, to building it into one that was respected not only all over the state, but the country. Nova had the first ever Scholastic A World Championship in WGI Winds, setting the tone for the activity. After receiving 2 WGI Medals with Nova, Mr. Bishop took over as Director of STRYKE Wynds, where he medaled every season, winning 2 silver and two World Championships.

Mr. Bishops most proud accomplishment in life is his amazing family. Family is very important to him, and wants everyone at West Broward to be just that..family.

"I look forward to continuing the long tenured tradition of excellence here at West Broward..taking the program to new heights, and proving to all students parents and staff that we CAN achieve all the goals that we set for ourselves, through hard work, dedication, and selfless devotion to the people to our left and right."
